The Provincial Government Palace of Santiago de Cuba is undoubtedly one of the greatest architectural jewels in all of Cuba built by Carlos Segrera Fernández, the same architect of the Emilio Bacardi Moreau Provincial Museum located right in front.
This emblematic building, declared a National Monument in 2003, has performed the functions of the provincial government since its inauguration in 1926. It has been the scene of important historical events such as the funeral honors of the town to José Martí in 1951, before its transfer to the mausoleum of the Santa Ifigenia Cemetery.
Its monumental façade is one of the most impressive that decorates the city of Santiago de Cuba. An example of eclecticism with a multitude of Renaissance elements that make its view an admirable spectacle. However, despite its fabulous exterior, it is possible that the most beautiful is inside the property. In a huge hall, the marble staircase leads to two bronze sculptures bearing marvelous lamps. The Hall of Mirrors is the most famous in the building and is not surprising given its opulent décor.
This palace is one of the richest in Santiago de Cuba and forms one of the most typical images of the city, a must for locals and foreigners who never tire of admiring its majesty.
