The Carnaval Museum inaugurated in 1983 shows the popular celebration of the carnivals in the city of Santiago de Cuba that take place every July and that are a tradition and a sign of identity of the inhabitants of this Cuban town.
Through photographs, explanatory panels and a large number of objects present at the Santiago de Cuba carnival, it is almost possible to feel at the great festival of the village Santiguero in Santiago de Cuba. This 18th century colonial building that stands out for the wooden balconies on its façade keeps inside part of the cultural heritage of this important Cuban city.
The exhibition is divided chronologically into three stages: Carnival in the Colony, in the Mediated Republic and in the Revolution. Accompanying the history of these festivities we find models of floats, costumes, masks, ornaments and numerous musical instruments that fill the streets with atmosphere during the festivities. What this museum undoubtedly achieves is that if your visit is not during Carnivals, you must return to the city another July to be able to enjoy them.
