The Tomás Romay Museum in Santiago de Cuba is a space dedicated to natural sciences that treasures part of the biodiversity of the island of Cuba, especially in the eastern area where it is located.
This place was inaugurated in 1966 but before serving as a museum, the construction where it is located had served other purposes. The property was built in the 20th century as a farmhouse but Jaime Vidal, a citizen of Santiago, bought it to install the Mercado Vidal there. Founded in 1926, being of vital importance for the July 26 Movement since an important part of the activity took place there clandestine of the participants. With the triumph of the revolution, the market was renamed Hermanos Marañón in honor of the young men murdered by Batista. It was closed in 1963 for three years, now reopening as a gallery.
The museum has 12 rooms dedicated to science and nature: the Origin of the Universe Room, the Formation and Origin of Life on Earth Room, the Invertebrate Room, the Fish Room, the Amphibian Room, the Reptile Room, the Bird Room. , Mammal Room, Archeology Room, Botanical Room, Osteology Room, Exotic Fauna Room.
