Céspedes Park is the landmark in the city of Santiago de Cuba in Cuba. In it, most of the important buildings of the town congregate in its mixture of architectural styles that encase this space, always full of life and good atmosphere.
With the founding of the city in 1515, this space was left free as required by Spanish laws. It soon became the Cathedral Square because it was found here, although, later, the name was changed to Plaza de la Reina Isabel in honor of the monarch of the metropolis. At present it is known as Parque Céspedes in homage to the Father of the Cuban Nation, of whom a monument erected in 1953 decorates the square.
Properties such as the Cathedral, the old Town Hall or the Diego Velázquez House, together with the planters that adorn the area, make it an ideal space to meet and plan your visit to the city from this point. In addition, it is one of the busiest places in Santiago de Cuba, with a multitude of events always very popular with locals and foreigners.
