Padre Pico Street is one of the most iconic places in Santiago de Cuba, a series of stairs that more than any other monument in the city is more important for the inhabitants of the Cuban town.
Given the geography of Santiago de Cuba, pedestrians greatly appreciate the stairway formed by the 52 steps of this street. It is located on the old hill of Corbacho, in the popular El Tívoli neighborhood, and is one of the simplest and most charming spaces in the entire city.
Created by Mayor Emilio Bacardí y Moreau in 1899, it is dedicated to Father Pico, Dean of the Cathedral, in gratitude for his unconditional love for the people of Santiago. Since its inauguration in 1903 it has been the nucleus of the life of the city, with millions of stories that have occurred on its stairs and that if you walk through them. Thanks to its bustling atmosphere they are still possible to recreate, a truly special place of obligatory visit.
