The Museum of Natural History located in the same Valley of Prehistory in Baconao Park, Santiago de Cuba, is a wonderful visit with which to complete the wonderful picture that make up the large statues of dinosaurs and prehistoric beings around them. In it, you will be able to meet the beings of our era, especially those who live on the eastern side of the island of Cuba.
The museum opened in 1883 with the idea of complementing the information of the existing exhibition in the Valley of Prehistory, in this way it included an explanation of the evolution of the petrified beings from the outside. Later, it was decided to make this space a true museum of natural history for which it would close and reopen again in 2002 in honor of the scientist Jorge Ramón Cuevas.
The museum's collection has a total of 21,424 pieces that exemplify the wonderful natural heritage of the region, of which many species are endemic and others are in serious danger of extinction. The museum has nine rooms with 1,369 permanent pieces: Malacology, Entomology, aquatic species and invertebrates, reptiles, ornithology, mammals, mineralogy, botany and, finally, one dedicated to Jorge Ramón Cuevas with personal objects that seek to honor him.
