National Aquarium of Cuba, Miramar

The National Aquarium of Cuba is a scientific and research centre that pursues educational, recreational and informative purposes. It is located in Havana's Miramar neighbourhood and was inaugurated in 1960 by a small group of Cuban specialists. By means of entertaining exhibitions and amazing shows, it is in charge of transmitting knowledge and raising awareness of the marine and coastal environment.

Specifically, they specialize in the exhibition of marine-coastal landscapes and in the handling of marine animals. The underwater dolphin show is unique to the world and offers a new perspective on the classic show.

The exhibits are divided according to the theme. One of them, the Tropical Island, offers a representation of the coast of an island or key of Cuba, with its sea turtles of various species, beautiful pelicans and natural flora of San Juan lilies, hicacos and many others. On the Tropical Island, you will also be able to observe how the animals are fed. It is also worth mentioning the exhibition of marine landscapes that are composed of six fish tanks, with their diverse species of fish and aquatic vegetation.

The National Aquarium of Cuba also has a program of activities that are divided according to days and hours. It includes an aquatic ballet and didactic activities as well as interactions with dolphins and sea lions.

The institution also offers restaurants and kiosks to enhance the visitor's experience with a variety of delicious meat, fish and seafood dishes. The Gran Azul restaurant stands out for its underwater section that allows observing dolphins while eating.

A visit to the National Aquarium of Cuba is recommended for being entertaining and interactive, but also for being educational and giving access to knowledge of marine flora and fauna.
