Numismática or, in English, Numismatics is the study of the official coins and paper money of a nation. Inside the Museo Numismático (Coin Museum), located on the famous Calle Obispo (Bishop Street) of Old Havana, visitors can admire collections of coins and money and learn more about them.
Visitors will be able to recognize the museum by its facades, which resemble a Greco-Roman temple, large facades, and sculpted borders. The cultural institution, established in 1975, was supported by the Minister- President at the time, Raúl León Torras. And by the year 2000, it was owned by the Oficina del Historiador de la Ciudad (City Historian’s Office).
The museum features several collections of coins, bills, and medals from different countries. However, you can't miss the collection of 1,000 gold coins collected between 1860 and 1928 as well as the exhibit that displays all of the Cuban bills that have ever existed.
