The Iglesia de San Francisco de Paula (San Francisco de Paula Church) is one of the most remarkable monuments of Havana. The historic and ecclesiastical site is located near Calle Leonor Pérez (Leonor Pérez), which is near the city harbor. It’s a site you can’t miss during your trip to Havana.
The church is separated from nearby buildings, but it is easily recognizable due to its beautiful European Baroque architecture. The church began construction in 1668, but part of the church had to be rebuilt in the 18th century. The Iglesia de San Francisco de Paula has been home to several institutions. It has even been used as a warehouse. After the Oficina del Historiador de la Ciudad (City Historian’s Office) restored the church it turned into a landmark concert and exhibition hall.
The church's architectural detail, facades, columns, strong Spanish influence, and the altar with the city’s most impressive stained-glass windows are sure to draw your attention.
