The National Zoo of Cuba is dedicated to the exhibition of native animals and those from other continents in large natural enclosures. It is located in the town of Calabazar, near the city of Havana.
The zoo, which opened its doors in 1984, has an extension of more than 300 hectares, more than 1,500 animals and a great diversity of species. Some are endangered animals and others are extremely exotic and eye-catching. All are cared for with the utmost attention thanks to the research carried out, focused on improving the reproduction, nutrition, and breeding of animals.
Of the various exhibits, The lion's den, the large African Prairie, where many species of animals of the continent cohabit, and the Aviary, stand out especially from the facilities.
Apart from visiting all the enclosures, other activities can be carried out at the National Zoo of Cuba, such as attending lectures, conferences, participating in training and educational activities, interactive games, etc.
The zoo has also received donations of many animals from the Republic of Namibia and Guatemala.
