You can find the Museo del Ron (Rum Museum) on Avenida del Puerto (Harbor Avenue), a street along the western shore in Havana. The museum’s decorated facades and yellow walls make it an easy museum to spot. And its interior colonial era beauty, open patio, and exhibitions featuring the history of rum will make it a difficult place to leave.

The building the museum is housed in was built between 1772 and 1780. Originally belonged to Mr.José Fajardo Covarrubias y Mrs.Josefa Montalvo, a Cuban couple that, like many others, wanted to live inside a big and beautiful mansion. Afterwards, the home cycled through many owners, each of which added decorative elements to the building. Today, the mansion is home to the Museo del Ron owned by the famous Cuban rum brand, Havana Club.

The museum, officially opened in 2000, offers engaging and interactive tours in several languages. Beginning where the 180 litre oak barrels are made, moving through the sugar cane gallery, which displays a scale model of a sugarcane mill, and an exhibition displaying a locomotive from 1902, the Museo del Ron offers more than drinks to its visitors. Throughout the tour, tour guides teach visitors about the history behind the famous Cuban drink, how it is produced and the country’s sugar cane industry.

After enjoying your tasting, included with your ticket purchase, visitors can extend their stay at the Museo del Ron at its restaurant/ bar and enjoy cocktails and traditional Cuban dishes. You can also visit the museum’s gift shop, where you can buy Havana Club handles and souvenirs.
