The Museo 28 de Septiembre de los CDR (28 de Septiembre de los CDR Museum) located on Calle Obispo (Bishop Street) in Old Havana pays homage to the Comités de Defensa de la Revolución (Committees for the Defense of the Revolution) or CDR. The CDR played an active role in defending Cuba against foreign entities and predicted peace and stability for the nation.
Within its several exhibition rooms the museum holds an approximate 6,00 pieces, all of which have been donated by those directly involved in the Revolution and its cause. It is from these pieces that the history of the CDR has been derived. One of the featured rooms in the museum gives visitors insight on what exactly the CDR did in the neighborhoods of Havana: clean the street and patrolling at night were among many of their activities. Other exhibitions recall historic events, such as the Batalla de las Ideas, which translates to the “Battle of Ideas,” and the CDR’s efforts that directly involved the city’s citizens.
Today, the museum belongs to the Ministerio de Cultura (Ministry of Culture). Since it was founded in 2007, the Museo 28 de Septiembre de los CDR has preserved the memory of the CDR as well as explained the Cuban socio-political model.
