The Iglesia del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús (Church), popularly known as Iglesia de Reina, is a majestic gothic style church located in Centro Habana, in the capital of Cuba. Its construction was carried out between 1914 and 1923. It's the tallest church in the country and one of the most beautiful.
As for its architectural elements, the Iglesia del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús clearly includes Gothic elements such as its high ribbed vaults, ogival arches and large windows. As is typical of this style, the church has a central nave, supported by six lateral columns and two side aisles that make the church's floor plan look like a Latin cross.
The church is known for its exquisite windows with dazzling stained-glass windows that narrate the life of Jesus, the Virgin Mary, and scenes from the life of Ignatius of Loyola and some Jesuits.
The interior also has an outstanding altarpiece, which was made in Madrid and moved and assembled piece by piece in the church. It shows an image of the Sacred Heart giving a blessing. The organ in the church is considered to be one of the most elegant and beautiful in Cuba.
