As you walk down the Avenida de las Misiones (Missions Avenue), the Edificio Bacardí (Bacardi Building) is sure to catch your eye. The colorful tiered building is easy to spot amidst the baroque and contemporary style of the city of Old Havana. And if you look closely enough, you can see the Bacardi Rum black bat inside one of the building's towers. The Edificio Bacardí is a spot you definitely don't want to miss during your visit to Havana.

The building, completed in 1930, was constructed by Esteban Rodríguez Castells, Rafael Fernández Ruenes, and José Menéndez Menéndez. The three architects won a competition that Bacardi designed in order to choose who would design their headquarters in Havana. The architect’s work was an ode to the Art Deco style of the time. Once construction was over, Bacardi moved into the offices and rented the leftover space to other companies in the city. However, during the 1950 Cuban Revolution, Bacardi, like many other international companies, fled the island in order to avoid their nationalist policies.

Today, the building continues to house offices and other administrations, but not Bacardi’s. Regardless, their presence remains strong. The Bacardi bat, which crowns the top of the building’s tiered pyramid shape, and its striking colors, which resemble the company’s drinks. Gold, white, and the dark red rum shade are some of the few signature Bacardi colors that flood the Edificio Bacardí to this day. The twelve-story building is also decorated with tiles, a result of the Catalan trend of the time, and the large pillars detailed with golden capitals

Visitors can also enjoy the bar and restaurant found inside the building for only. And for 1 CUC, you can climb the tower and enjoy breath-taking views of the city.
