The beautiful Hotel Nacional de Cuba (National Hotel of Cuba) in Vedado is home to visitors, celebrities, and rich Cuban history. Construction on the hotel began in 1930 and by December of that same year, it was ready to open to the public. The peculiar architectural design of the hotel made it a National Monument in 2001.

The Hotel Nacional de Cuba stands on the cerro de Taganana, a terrain that served as a natural fortress against corsair invasions. Today, this has given shape to the gardens around the famous hotel. In the gardens you can find, the Cueva Taganana (Tanganana Cave) and the Batería de Santa Clara (Battery of Santa Clara), a set of cannons once used to defend the city. In 1988 UNESCO declared the battery a World Heritage Site.

Inside the hotel, photographs of famous guests, celebrities, and gangsters line the hallways of the seafront hotel. Guests like Ava Gardner, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Ernest Hemingway and Winston Churchill are some of the many the hotel has hosted. The interior is also decorated with objects from the 1930s, such as old telephones and game tables.

The hotel is also home to the famous Cabaret Parisien, where you can enjoy a music and dance show that demonstrates how Hispanic, African, and American Indian cultures gave rise to the Cuban flavour felt in the country today.

The hotel offers free guided visits through its defence fortress and its buildings.
